Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Hi,
an out-of-the box rhythmbox on dapper 6.06LTS claims .mp3 files aren't audio files. While this may be the Linux way of handling patent/copyright problems, please at least make it display a message
* that this is so (why) and
* which packages to add manually

(if you can't simply make it depend on them).

[actually, after
 apt-get install gstreamer0.8-faad
 apt-get install gstreamer0.8-mad

as suggested in
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=92526

the same problem procurs. I realize this might be some unrelated problem, though.

Hi,

This seems like a suggestion for improvement in Ubuntu, not really a bug. We already have a spec for this ( https://features.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+spec/easy-codec-installation ), so if you would like to contribute to this spec, that would be awesome!

Thank you, and have a nice day.

Well, if you know it is a codec thing, you would look for such a spec - but when I first saw this message, I had no idea. Probably, that's what a lot of other people experience, thus the bug report.
