Binary package hint: bash

An error occurs when reinstalling all system packages, after the download step, and prior to preparation:

Unfortunately the Maverick beta fails to install on my system, and I've currently removed upgraded instances elsewhere. I'll repeat the test when the RC comes out (and installation presumably succeeds).

i think this always happens if you have circular dependencies. e.g. pkg a depends on b, b depends on c and c depends on a.
Then first "c" is installed but configuration fails because "a" is (not yet) installed

workaround:
echo 'APT::Immediate-Configure "false";' > /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/67configure

To reproduce run :

sudo aptitude reinstall '~i'

Returns:

Tested on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS x86_64 (Kernel version 2.6.32-31)

Using the workaround suggested by rollercoaster returns the following message:

E: Couldn't configure pre-depend coreutils for dpkg, probably a dependency cycle.
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
Reading package lists... Done
...

Still an issue. I have a similar output as Doug when applying rollercoaster's workaround:

E: Couldn't configure pre-depend perl-base for debconf, probably a dependency cycle.
