Nvidia driver failed to install under lucid

Bug Description
A fresh install failed to install nvidia proprietary driver
1) After installing lucid, hardware drivers show "Hardware Drivers" -> activated not in use (is this the normal behaviour??)
2) Cairo is not starting
3) Removing driver and re-installing driver through "Hardware Drivers" does not solve the problem
4) Installing latest nvidia from nvidia driver site solves the problem
Conclusion: installer is not working
was working under jaunty
Hard to reproduce because I have to reinstall my system (willing to do so)
