low sound quality empathy

When the new message arrive, play sound notification in good quality.

When the new message arrive, play sound notification but quality of sound is bad (crackling).

Sound in all applications work fine except empathy. In previous version (Karmic 9.10) all work fine

Yes. For me, run empathy and wait while someone send me a message.The same happening on my brother PC. I have clean install of 10.04. In 9.10 all works fine.

now I have this version of empathy

Can you please open /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo there open message-new-instant.ogg and check if the sound file have the problem. this way we will know where the problem is.

I tried to listen the file but in all players (mplayer, rhythmbox, etc) file played normaly. I also tried to replace him but no effect. File is in attachment.

I dont see a difference between the two but thats just me. maybe the sound files are of not a good quality in Ubuntu

sudo apt-get install sound-theme-freedesktop and change you system's default sound theme to it and see if you still have the problem this will help us find where the problem lies.

I installed sound-theme-freedesktop but no change. Sound is still bad :(
