Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnugo

Hi,

Since kigo now recommends gnugo it wants to move to main. Therefore it either
needs an MIR or kigo needs demoting. Please either:

  * Turn this bug in to an MIR for gnugo and follow the MIR procedures.
  * Turn this bug in to a request for demotion of kigo to universe and subscribe ubuntu-archive.

Ryan, I am assigning to you as you made this change. Please find someone else to do
the work if you are unable to.

Thanks,

James

another option for solving this is for kigo to drop the recommends to a suggests.

Yes I would like gnugo in main. It needs no notable dependencies, has had no security issues and includes a large regression testsuite. The testsuite is not part of the package build process currently but could be easily added.

I don't want to drop gnugo from a recommends to a suggests, running the programme just gives a message to install gnugo. We could drop kigo from the kdegames meta-package which would stop it needing to be in main. MIR for gnugo is my preferred option so subscribing ubuntu-mir.

There was no Debian upload in 1.5 years, but there are no Debian/Ubuntu bugs. It has ancient packaging, though (not even using debhelper), but since it has no i18n/gettext and is just by and large an engine, we do not need to worry about translation stripping anyway.

So it's a bit rusty, but as a game it's harmless enough that I could live with it being in main.
