Bug Description

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
This was also the case in Ubuntu 9.10

Every time i suspend the laptop, weather it's by hotkey or closing the lid. Every time i resume, the webcam activates (The green light next to the build in webcam turns on). The only way i have found to turn it off is to open a webcam application and then exit the application to turn the webcam back off. The laptop is a Asus K50I, and the webcam is using the UVC drivers.

Hi Keith,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue remains, run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 566205

Also, please be sure to take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume . If you can provide any additional information outlined there it would be much appreciated.

Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Thanks in advance.

Doing
'sudo rmmod uvcvideo'
'sudo modprobe uvcvideo'
Seems to do the trick. How would I get this into my suspend/hibernate resume scripts on lucid?

I would post the no_console_suspend, but for some reason it won't work? I've tried everything i can think of, even tried using it on the mainstream kernel, and every time it just suspends the laptop like normal.. So let me know if there is some work around for that?

Hey I've had this issue too, Asus G1S-B1 here. A fix I found to work is the following:

echo 'SUSPEND_MODULES="uvcvideo"' | sudo tee /etc/pm/config.d/modules_unload

I found it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/254825

Keith Harvey, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
