Bug Description

eog fails to start but continues to run in the background; I'm using Lucid with all updates and eog 2.30.0-0ubuntu1. This is the stdout when running "eog test.png":

(eog:8683): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to read the recently used resources file at `/home/delan/.recently-used.xbel', but the parser failed: Error reading file '/home/delan/.recently-used.xbel': Is a directory.

(eog:8683): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_app_info_equal: assertion `G_IS_APP_INFO (appinfo1)' failed

(eog:8683): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_app_info_equal: assertion `G_IS_APP_INFO (appinfo1)' failed

(eog:8683): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/home/delan/.recently-used.xbel', but failed: Failed to rename file '/home/delan/.recently-used.xbel.CNV9AV' to '/home/delan/.recently-used.xbel': g_rename() failed: Is a directory

It seems that removing the ~/.recently-used directory temporarily fixes the problem, but upon recreation of that directory (by removing the ~/.recently-used file and making the directory) eog still works sometimes. The problem is quite intermittent.

Thank you for your bug report, do you know how you got .recently-used.xbel to be a directory? It's supposed to be a file and not a directory which is what is creating your issue

Not sure if I can explain why that was a directory, but I recently had this problem too. I'm running 10.04 64-bit; is there any way to monitor which process creates the directory?

note that the "GLib-GIO-CRITICAL" errors in the OP are red herrings caused by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/578061

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
