Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

The widget in my panel occupies the full area it should, but only the left half (or so) is active/selectable/clickable/painted. There's no session section visible. There is a 1px thin vertical line at the right edge of the reserved area.

Attached is a screenshot of the top right of my screen. My username is "cmiller" but only "cmil" is drawn. No session-management icon is drawn, and only the x-bubble and c-m-i-l are clickable.

I think this might be related to the font size you are using

Incomplete? Did you ask a question, Omer?

The "Desktop font" is "Sans 12", fwiw. It's a legitimate bug when the font size is 100000pt, too.

I am having the same issue, same font. I don't see how the font is related to the problem. The truncation is random, sometimes the full username is visible some other it is not.

I will need to confirm this on the next time, but I believe the problem is related to the shutdown menu, when the problem happens the shutdown icon is not show.

Thanks

Hrm, I'm not sure this is duplicate, but I will defer for now.

Unmarking as duplicate of Bug#439448.

The other bug has upstream bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596923
which is specific to the notification area.

Either this bug is separate, or the upstream of Bug#439448 is wrong.

I might be willing to accept this is a common bug to the panel, but until there's an appropriate bug report in Gnome BTS, to unify these, this must not be marked as duplicate.

This happened for me in i386 Ubuntu 10.04. After usual desktop usage I noticed that the session menu is invisible and not clickable. No hibenating etc is involved. When moving the applet the empty space follows. Clicking right mouse button on the empty space opens the panel's menu. I'm able to access the session menu by selecting visible section of the applet and then moving to session menu with arrow keys. When the session menu is accessed the applet still doesn't paint correctly.

I'm having the same issue, sometime the indicator-applet is only half painted (as you can see the volume and email icons are missing in the attached screenshot), sometimes it works fine.

I am using font Sans 9, so I doubt it's related to font size.

Actually sorry after having a read through bug #439448, that seems to be my problem - if these really are unrelated then I guess I'm in the wrong place!

I've never experiencied this bug in karmic. In lucid, when it was released, it seemed ok, but for some months this problem started to happen, and its always the same behavior: crops my name, and power menu is hidden. If I add another indicator-applet-session, an intersting behavior: it appears just the power button. To workaround I need to remove the buggeds applets, and add them again. Some simmilar issue with the indicator-applet also happen once, where just that 'separator' 3 horizontal lines were visible, to fix it also removing and adding it back. Its very annoying.
When it happens, how can I help tracking this bug?

I can again confirm this problem. I've noticed it first with my own computer but lately, I get the same message from some of my customers (3 of them to be exactly). All mentioning that the shutdown button is missing and the login-name is truncated.
For the moment (if they experience this problem), I tell them to use the power button to shutdown an to press 'Alt Gr'+'PrtSc'+'k' to log off.
If there is anything we can do to help...
