Bug Description

UNetbootin should have an install option where instead of creating a new partition, it will create a disk image in the same partition as the current Windows XP/Vista operating system. The Wubi installer(open source) for Ubuntu does this here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wubi_(Ubuntu_installer)

Basically users can choose the drive size, then the operating system installs on the same partition as the current operating system without over-writing it, then when the computer boots there is a boot menu where a user can choose which operating system to load. The operating system can later be uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP/Vista.

Unfortunately, this can't be done. There is no general, distro-agnostic way to make a loopmounted install of a Linux distribution - the way Wubi does this (which I was the original developer of, by the way) is to patch the Ubuntu initrd, and since each Linux distribution has a different initrd layout and boot process then there's no general way to automatically modify the initrd to support loopmounted installs; the specific initrd patches Wubi uses will only work only on Ubuntu and its derivates.
