running gaim with gdb if you connect to some server is enough to make gdb crash, it crashes the same way when trying to crach a xchat-gnome crasher (start with no config, connected to freenode, close the chan lists and open the preferences dialog)

That upload should fix the issue:

 gdb (6.4.90.dfsg-1ubuntu2) edgy; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/from_upstream_fix_context_switch.patch:
     - upstream patch (http://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-cvs/2006-09/msg00053.html),
       should fix a multi-threading issue (Ubuntu: #56391)

If somebody still has gdb crashing after the update fell free to reopen the bug
