 Actually I do play fillets with cursor keys all the time, both in fullscreen and also in windowed mode. Do they work in other SDL based applications for you? Have you maybe upgraded to at least lucid and can you still reproduce the issue there?

 Thanks for any further additional information in advance. Given that Ivo did ask almost a year ago I plan to close this bugreport as invalid if it doesn't receive further hopefully reproducible information.
