Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

I was notified that my friend was online and I went to talk to him, but then he asked how did I know that he was online, because his status was set on "hidden". I checked my empathy contact list and contact was "green" with status "Available". I then opened gmail and really he was offline to me there just as it's supposed to be.

I looked for other occurrences of this bug but only found this thread -> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1291447

Thanks for taking time to report this bug. Empathy is just picking up the status that your friend has If he is hidden then he certainly is hidden. Empathy cant show him online if his client has set it to hidden. furthermore you could logout empathy and login again and see if that shows him offline.

Changed in empathy (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Well that is why I reported the bug because he was "hidden" but empathy showed him as "available".
Anyway, if this happens again I will reopen this bug report.

Reopening, I just had this happen again, and I took a screenshot of it.
You can see that the "t" contact is hidden (offline) in gmail chat but online in empathy.
I use empathy only for Gtalk so it's not another protocol or something silly like that.
