Acer Euro and dollar keys do not work in Lucid

Now in Lucid the media keys work well on my Acer laptop. One of the only things left is the € and $ keys to the left and right of the up key. Note that xev does not detect the keys at all.

Please exercise the steps at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting to determine at which level your hotkey problems occur, and attach the collected information. Most probably the keys will produce an unknown or wrong key code with the "keymap" tool, in which case you need to follow /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt.gz to determine the scan code - key code mapping for the broken/missing keys.

I do not have the laptop working anymore and am unable to test this, but I do remember that pressing any key in xev worked, but these didn't. I eventually got the buttons working with acerhk - this is what is missing. I think new users installing Ubuntu wanting these keys shouldn't have to go through the hassle of getting acerhk - plug and play should work.

I can help you with this issue. I have an acer laptop and the euro and dollar keys doesn't work in X. I followed the steps in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting. With the 'keymap' tool, I see that the 'euro' key, when pressed, is producing 'scan code: 0xB3 key code: euro'; the dollar key - 'scan code: 0xB4 key code: dollar'.
With the xev, the keys are not producing any events.

Ah, thanks Sree. Then it seems the keymaps are correct, but X.org can't use them due to bug 313514.
