slideshow plugin is missing

Binary package hint: gthumb

In gthumb 2.11.x in lucid, the slideshow feature became a plugin that requires clutter.
However, the ubuntu package doesn't include it.

Average users (the ones who would actually use the slideshow feature ;) shouldn't have to compile their own version of gthumb.

It seems that the clutter backend was removed because of these debian bugs:

I can't still find out what's going on. It worked few weeks ago, but looks like somebody had problems, so they just removed it :/

This has been "fixed" by downgrading the version of gthumb, 2.10.11 (same as in Karmic) will be shipped in Lucid.

Experiencing this problem in Maverick.

Also releases before 2.11.3 are unsatisfactory because the gthumb upload pictures from camera function does not work with all cameras before the re-write of gthumb.

Please re-instate the slide show function within gthumb 2.11.3 and greater. Thanks.

The problem is that Maverick has a 2.11.x package which was still an intermediate serie before stable 2.12.x was released, which you can get here:

Thank you for your quick response. I used the URL you provided and:
o installed gthumb 2.12.1
o slideshow not available
o checked extensions, slideshow not available
o "more extensions", slideshow greyed out.
o selected slideshow->enable and slide show became available in the drop down menu.
o Tried slideshow: black screen, no slide show, couldn't exit (esc,ctl+alt+del, ctl+alt+bcsp, etc.) - had to shutdown and restart the machine.

Do I open a new problem or continue with this one?

I didn't try the package from webupd8 as I compile from source
It works fine with latest git master on Lucid

However not with Maverick
