"dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute installed post-installation script: Exec format error" -- This has nothing to do with udev itself,
but looks like an aufs or squashfs issue (but most probably aufs). Can you still reproduce this with lucid final? Can you please attach /var/log/kern.log after it happens?

summary: - package udev 151-8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-
- installation script returned error exit status 2
+ "exec format error" on shell script with aufs (live usb system with
+ persistency)
affects: udev (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

@Stein, you seem to be describing bug #557023. Is the ""exec format error" related?

@Martin Pitt, I've pretty much abandoned booting from various usb-sticks due to seemingly unavoidable filesystem or media corruption, and abandoned lucid as well (due to increased problems on three different old laptops here). I doubt that I have kept the relevant log, or that I can reproduce the error before losing the filesystems. Perhaps filesystem or media corruption was the cause of this error.
