Bug Description

I have checked and double-checked that my locale is set correctly to US English but the menus in The Gimp are still spelled with non-US english spellings.

This is especially strange because the "C" locale has color spelled with the US spelling.

Thanks for your bug. What LANGUAGE value do you have to /etc/environment? Do you get the issue if you run "LANGUAGE=C gimp"? The tools menu uses "color" on my edgy installation, where do you notice the issue?

$ echo $LANGUAGE
en_US:en_GB:en

When I run gimp it uses en_GB locale (you can see if you point your mouse at the bucket fill tool). If I run LANGUAGE=C gimp or LANGUAGE=en_US gimp, the problem disappears.

marking as duplicate of bug #10822, you probably want to fix the LANGUAGE variable
