Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Question: did you try to encrypt your $HOME directory when installing? I'm trying to track down a similar crash (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/577302), except that crashes with a code 32, not 1.

I eventually managed to install the system. Mine was a "hardware" problem, there were bad sectors on a part of the HD, and the installation probably failed to write on the disk. I re-partitioned the hard disk not allocating the first two Gb's and everything ran smoothly.
I guess this bug can be closed, at least for me.

Mattia
