Bug Description

Binary package hint: sunbird

Lucid-amd64, beta2:
Sunbird 0.9+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 (lucid) from repository installs, but upon starting the application the window freezes on the (GNOME) desktop. Cannot resize window, cannot configure, just kill it by Alt+F4

This is really annoying, as Sunbird is the only usable calendar application for Ubuntu, because Evolution does not remind on missed alarms. This makes Evolution calendar obsolete for me.

Addition:

sunbird can be run as 'root' and works fine, but not as a normal user!

Output if sunbird is started from a x-term:

GConf-Fehler: Der Konfigurationsserver konnte nicht kontaktiert werden; mögliche Fehlerquellen sind, dass TCP/IP für ORBit nicht aktiviert ist oder auf Grund eines Systemabsturzes alte NFS-Sperren gesetzt sind. Unter http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ erhalten Sie weitere Informationen (Details – 1: Verbindung zur Sitzung konnte nicht abgerufen werden: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)

What works in Lucid:

Debian-sid packages:

iceowl_1.0~b1+dfsg-3_amd64.deb

with dependencies:

calendar-timezones_1.0~b1+dfsg-3_amd64.deb
libsqlite3-0_3.6.23-1_amd64.deb

Did further Tests:

the freeze happenes only, if there are alarms pending! So the root cause is the notification/alarm which is not displayed.

It's a sound problem. As soon as sound for alarms is disabled, Sunbird works fine.

Sunbird is going to be removed from Lucid since upstream no longer supports it and we will also only provide lightning in Lucid and greater.

Changed in lightning-sunbird (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

lightning in the repo is version 0.9 and NOT compatible with thunderbird 3.0.4, so status changed to confirmed
