That's not a bug unfortunately, CUDA is not an advertised feature of nouveau and support is at least a year away most likely. Nouveau is not intended to be a feature complete replacement of the binary drivers at this time, there is not even accelerated 3D support in lucid. You also will not get CUDA support with the driver it replaced (xserver-xorg-video-nv) but you do get KMS and accelerated 2D.

So, what about VDPAU? It's possible to implement this before Maverick release?

It's possible - there's been work done on a gallium vdpau (or, rather, vaapi I think) state tracker.

That said, it's been shelved for a while, we're not going to put any resources into it, we're unlikely to ship it by default even if it were feature-complete by Maverick freeze.
