Bug Description

since 2.6.32, I need to hdparm -W0 /dev/sda to get full performance (e.g. hdparm -t /dev/sda while miranda on wine write continously a bit)

also, with "disabled" write cache, the hdd-led lights at ca. 25% of full strengts while running miranda if write cache is "on".
Didn't had that on 2.6.31.

HDD-Info:
 Model Number: TOSHIBA MK3252GSX
 Firmware Revision: LV010A
is a 320 GB, 2,5', 5400 rpm, sata modell in a lenovo x61t.

I'm running current lucid.

the kernellog is compliant with the settings done by hdparm -Wx ([226522.975410] sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: disabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA) - as a hdparm -I /dev/sda is.

Hi Michael,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 559639

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
