Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

On Lucid I'm trying to reformat a 8GB USB stick using usb-creator to put ubuntu-netboot-remix on it.

1. Run usb-creator-gtk
2. usb-creator shows /dev/sdb
3. I select /dev/sdb and click "Format"
4. I get a dialog with:

"org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

5. I close the dialog window
6. Click "Make Start-up disk"
7. The process completes just fine and I am able to boot off the device

The dialog message is ominous, but overall functionality is there.

Can you please attach the output of `udisks --dump` with the USB disk plugged in?

Is the Install button clickable when you select /dev/sdb? If you could take a screenshot of this, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks!

The "Make Startup Disk" button is available.

Ameet, this was tested on Lucid while in development. Now that Lucid is released, do you still experience this problem when trying to create a usb startup disk?

Same error on 12.10. In addition, after I click away the dialog, udisks-daemon and udisks-helper-modify-partition start running in the background at 100% CPU each (multicore machine). When I kill these processes after a few minutes of activity, nothing has changed to my USB flash drive.

I am having the identical problem as Lars. Including the two runaway processes. Make startup disk is grayed out; it was available before I hit erase disk the first time, now it never is.

I have the same problem as Lars in 12.10. I do not seem to have any runaway processes though. usb-creator-gtk takes around 8% CPU time and says "erasing" on the erase button but nothing happens. When checking iotop nothing is accessing the USB-stick. "udisks --dump" is attached. I also get the DBus error mentioned in the original bug. I have tried updating everything and rebooting etc.
