I can confirm bug, similar thing happend to me.
I have a dv7 HP Pavilion laptop with nvidia geforce 9600 GT, intel core duo P7450, 4 GB DDR2 memory, 64 bit (i think).
After upgrading from beta 1 to beta 2, i restarted and noticed that my custom compiz-config settings were disbaled, and now 'visual effects' is set to 'none' special effects.
Trying to change this opens a new window that searches for a graphic driver (even though i'm using nvidia 'recent'). after 30 seconds the screen flickers and i'm asked if i want to keep the new settings or not. Whatever i choose, the 'choose to keep settings' window freezes and i'm stuck with 'visual effects' on 'none'.
I had no problem with my graphics card or compiz- config/ 'visual effects' on lucid beta 1, or on ubuntu 9.10 for that matter.
