Bug Description

At some point, after opening enough applications (in my case ~10 were sufficient), media applications starts to reporting inability to output sound.
Sound preferences dialog becomes unusable at that point, probably due to missing slider in applications tab.

Pay attention that modern browsers, opens separate processes for each tab and media plugin, so bug is pretty critical.

If you look in your sound properties, under "Hardware", there should be a "Dummy Output" listed instead of the actual sound hardware you have. I have several Lucid AMD64 machines doing this.
