mlocate update hangs, never returns

Bug Description
Binary package hint: mlocate
My mlocate.db file is out of date, when I run the following command I get no output and the command never returns:
# sudo updatedb.mlocate -v | tee updatedb.log

might be related to 'df' command, this also hangs until manually killed.
