Bug Description

Edgy has avahi-daemon disabled by default, which is understandable, however upgrading from Dapper with it installed results in it being disabled for no apparent (to the user) reason.

It would be good if it was enabled by default for those upgrading, since they obviously want it (they chose to install it).

I concur. In addition even if I run /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon start as root, nothing happens. This might be a scripting issue. Started by simply issuing avahi-daemon works just fine.

Thats why /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon does nothing. You probably have it set to 0. But I agree, if its upgrading from the dapper version, it should default to on or at least warn the user.
