Bug Description

Every once in a while my mouse goes crazy. Pointer disappears, windows start to pop-up or scroll wildly. A couple of seconds later the hurricane stops and everything is back to normal except for the messed-up desktop. This is an external optical PS/2 mouse that disables the built-in synaptic touchpad.

I am running Ubuntu 6.06 (2.6.15-26-386)

The same problem seems to occur with another mouse (a Logitech optical) but not as severely.

Here is a typical excerpt from /var/log/messages:

Aug 9 16:30:55 ggv-ubuntu kernel: [17192534.288000] psmouse.c: Wheel Mouse at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 2 bytes away.

This looks like a dupe of Bug #46074. I'm going to mark it as such, as I strongly suspect that you (and several others) are having the exact same problem. But we haven't yet figured out what that problem is...

Yes, I have the same problem but I'm using Feisty Fawn.

Sometimes my mouse goes crazy.

In my /var/log/kern there are rows like this:
Mar 22 01:45:29 attorianzo-desktop kernel: [ 474.858386] psmouse.c: Wheel Mouse at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 2 bytes away.

If you try on google : "mouse lost synchronization" you can see that a lot of people have the same problem. It seems that it is not important what distribution you are using or what kernel do you have but it is a strong problem..

Hi,

Could this be bad news for me? Is Feisty Fawn the next Ubuntu? After I first posted that bug report, I went back to Fedora 5, then back to Ubuntu in version 6.10. Those synchronization problems went away since.

Thanks for you reply to my post.
