firefox 3.5 closes while connecting to certain sites

On UBUNTU 9.10 I used to be able to open any website. as of yesterday, many sites cause Firefox 3.5 to close right after the site is downloaded. Sites like cbc.ca or ctv.ca for example. Firefox works properly on other sites like Ubuntu, launchpad, Google etc. At the time the bug, I had problems with loading skype and was working on removing the application. This also caused a problem with Google earth which will not startup anymore.
