Launch icon is annoying and obtrusive

Bug Description

I love Panflute, but one thing that gets me is the fact that the launch icon isn't optional. I use Docky and Gnome Do to launch most things, and having this one icon just floating in the middle of my panel really gets on my nerves. There should be an option to hide it.

What behavior would you prefer to see instead?

There should be an option in the preferences to hide the icon, so that panflute is basically hidden until called (that is, until your media player is launched.) I don't have any other icons on my panel (like I said, I use Docky) and this one is just floating there looking all out-of-place.

If I could move the icon all the way to the right, next to the application indicators, that would be nice too. Right now if I move it, it condenses panflute so that the text is hidden, and if I resize the text area, the icon moves back to the left again.

I'm leery of having the applet become completely invisible if there isn't a player running; that sounds like it's guaranteed to confuse the user. What if instead there were an option to have the applet appear as normal even if there isn't a player running? The Play button would then both launch the player and tell it to start playing.

That seems like a doable compromise.

I would really love the option to completely hide it if the player is closed. I have a small notebook, and I use just 1 panel, so that means that the windows list applet is in that panel too.

Basically I use Panflute to modify the stars of a song, and when the player is not open I don't want it to be stealing space up there.

I really think this should be an option somewhere, even when not activated by default, or even inside gconf...

I feel the same as Germán. I only use it to change the stars of the song; I have dedicated buttons to change the song and notify-osd tells me what song is playing. Using a netbook means a lack of space, and the icon doesn't fit with the default 10.04 styling.

I have a feeling the sound indicator menu may decrease some of the use for panflute, as much as I love the app.

I would like to have another feature: the possibility to customize the icon of the applet. I have no problem with the fact that it is not hide, but having the default colored Rhythmbox icon in my panel with all the other Ubuntu monochrome icons really annoying me...It will be awesome to have the possibility to set a custom icon.

Thanks a lot!

All the icons come from the current theme.

I too would like the applet without an icon. About the Rythmbox icon, yes you do use the current theme, but not the icon for the taskbar, but the icon for the menu, there's a monochrome rythmbox icon which is intended for the panels.

However keep up the good work, i love the applet, just awesome.
