There is nothing in your logs indicating this happened and we cannot troubleshoot it further without logs. Can you reproduce this on an installed system and run apport-collect 557383 to attach the logs and also verify it still happens with the latest package updates?

Thanks for attaching the logs, but your environment is totally different now and whatever problem you had in the original bug report is almost certainly not the same or it is not a graphics subsystem related bug. Is there a reason you are forcing vesa in xorg.conf while you have fglrx installed? Can you suspend/resume with fglrx or radeon (not vesa) now? If it was because of the crashes with fglrx for the past few days that should be fixed in the newest version just released a few hours ago (version 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu1)

I was originally testing from a live dvd to isolate potential problems from a system upgrade. I have switchable gfx (intel 4500 and radeon 3450), the problem appears to occur with either video card active in the bios, so I suspect the problem is not x-related after trying to track it down further, but still no luck. can't suspend/resume on my T400.
I will try again with new fglx and report back tonight, but I was also getting a kernel panic on boot with the new -20 version.

Given that, best guess is it's a kernel bug. refiling.

Hi Jason,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

The problem appears to be SD card related. ( I am using the SD card slot for ready-boost in windows, and therefore just leave it in all the time.)

I had a similar problem with my netbook and found a solution from the instructions here, I added the script to un-mount the SD card on sleep.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireOne/Ubuntu9.10

and it works for both the acer and my Thinkpad.
