Bug Description

ISO: Kubuntu Desktop amd64
md5sum: dee53cb4603f7059acfbb6513fd49f7c
sync date: 07/04/2010

I have tried to start a persistent session live with pendrive USB, but it has not worked.
It has given back the following error in the prompt initramfs:

BusyBox v1.18.4 (Ubuntu 1:1.18.4-2ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of build-in commands.

(initramfs) stdin: error 0
mount: mounting /dev/sdb1 on /cow failed: device or resource busy
can not mount /dev/sdb1/ on /cow

Step to reproduce:
1) Start the usb-creator-gtk;
2) Select the image;
3) Install the image in the usb;
4) Boot the system;
5) Select any language;
6) Start the system
Expected results:
1) I expected that the system is booted.
Actual results:
1) Error prompt initramfs

There some kernel crashes in your dmesg.txt file. Have you tried booting the same system using a Live CD? Doing this would be helpful to determine if it is related to USB persistence or not. Thanks in advance.

I've been asked to check if it works with textual boot, but it doesn't.
I Also checked the /var/log directory and the root dir to look for more dmesg files but
I haven't found any

Hello Riccardo
Try to follow this steps.
 ° Delete the key
 ° Rewrite it with persistence
 ° Be sure that at the end of the creation to close the popup (the key will be automatically unmounted)
 ° Be sure that the key stops flashing, if you have a non flashing model, then wait 10 seconds before remove it to avoid
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/769473
 ° Start the session, reproduce the bug
 ° Switch off, detach the key and insert it in a working Ubuntu
 ° Open it and open the file casper-rw with libreoffice or openoffice writer, wait it have to load more than 10000 pages
 ° You will see just a lot of ################################
 ° In the search box type ubuntu kernel
 ° Wait, be patient, we are at the limit of the stabilty for the poor libreoffice.
 ° When text appear, copy everythings readable and paste it in gedit, save it
 ° Attach the saved file here, using below button 'Add attachment or patch'

Thanks
Fabio

Hi Riccardo,

I suspect the kernel warning you are seeing adn the usb creator persistence issue are two separate issues. That being said, I'm curious if you still experience the persistence issue with the latest Oneiric Alpha 3 release? Also curious if you still see the warning in dmesg? Thanks.

I have tested with Kubuntu and Mythbuntu Oneiric Alpha 3 and the problem persists. I have already attachment the file dmseg.
In effect are two problems distinct.

Hello
I've tryed to create a persistent live session USB, with unetbootin. At start i've tryed to put "persistent" in boot's comand system, but the problem still remains.
I've tryed to run the program without persistent and it worked correctly.
I think that isn't linux the problem, but the busybox-initramfs package.

Hi Riccardo,

I noticed you reported in bug 656486 that you no longer see the driver warning messages with the latest Oneiric Beta-1 release. That would seem to confirm that the driver warning and the persistence issue are indeed unrelated and I would agree with your statement above that this does not appear to be a kernel issue. I'm therefore going to close the linux task. Thanks.
