Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04

When I connect my Canon IXUS 75 Camera via USB, it is no longer automatically detected and offers no options on what to do when it is plugged in. This is what I see in /var/log/messages

Apr 7 17:47:25 coppermine kernel: [74572.850030] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
Apr 7 17:47:25 coppermine kernel: [74573.011454] usb 1-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Apr 7 17:47:55 coppermine kernel: [74602.229341] usb 1-4: USB disconnect, address 5

I have used shotwell, and I am able to import the pictures of the camera in PTP mode, but I am unable to see the actual camera in Nautilus, browse the photos or retreive AVI's off the camera.

I have attached some logs..Please help.

Just an FYI, the camera seems to work now - some recent update must have fixed it. Note that the output of dmesg | tail and lsusb are exactly the same, even though the camera works now... odd!

With the most recent lucid updates, I am still unable to see the camera under Nautilus when it it plugged in. The same thing happens with both my Ixus 75 and also Canon 50D. Still no pop-up mentioning that a camera has been detected..

Hi pdaemon,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 557232

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Yes this is still an issue. I get the same problem with a Rebel XTi. Worked fine in 9.10. Now I can only access images via F-Spot's import routine (which frequently is not what I want to do, since I just want a couple pictures off the camera without importing them into F-Spot).

What else do you need to move forward on this bug?

nimu (n-mussin) wrote :

This affects my canon sx110IS, too. The camera IS actually recognized after rebooting my computer (and ONLY after that). It won't mount by just plugging it in. I HAVE to restart my computer. This is in fact a regression since I've never had any problems with my camera until lucid.

F-Spot import is the only thing that works fine at the moment but is not very comfortable for only saving one or two pictures.

I just tried it on my Dell Mini (Ubuntu Netbook Edition) and the camera is recognized every time I plug it in. So why does it fail on my pc? Maybe this is an Ubuntu 64bit problem? Seems strange to me...

Any system information I can provide you?

Not sure how this is incomplete. You requested apport data and Zeke submitted such. There were no requests for additional information. What is still needed?

This IS still a problem. In fact, it is worse now in 10.10. As with nimu, it now works correctly ONCE after a reboot. Subsequent camera connections are ignored, and now I can't even get to it via F-Spot as I could before.

dmesg says:
[962250.783770] usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 14
[962296.343773] usb 1-5: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 14

What other info do you need to finally fix this issue? I will be happy to supply whatever you need.

Thanks.
