cannot find a java plugin

Binary package hint: firefox

I cannot make java applets to work in my Ubuntu Lucid beta1 installation.
Firefox automatically notices a plugin is missing, but after the web search, none is detected.
I have also tried to install to Sun package, with no effect.

Hi, I am also unable to install the JRE-plugin, using the installation instructions on http://www.java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.xml#selfextracting.

Meanwhile I have repeated this install-procedure for at least two JRE version, and always Firefox seems to notice nothing of the JRE plugin.

Today (again) I have tried installed the file jre-6u20-linux-i586.bin into /usr/java/jre1.6.0_20/ (directory with user account rights).

Then I've created a symbolic link to the libjavaplugin.so as described (with:
sudo ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_20/plugin/i386/ns7libjavaplugin_oji.so
into the path /usr/lib/firefox-3.6.3$
)

But somehow I am not succeeding, no java plugin is displayed in Firefox (neither about:plugins, nor menu extra->Add-ons->plugins)

Hello,

I run a fresh install of kubuntu Lucid 10.04 on x86 64 and java-plugins are installed but not see in menu plugins and if try open a java applet, firefox crash .

It's quite strange, was fixed with FF daily build when i tried it before as beta in a virtualbox.

Manually fixed weeks ago using the symlink proposed on comment #5.
Is it automatically fixed now?
