Black screen when opening display controls in kde systemsettings

Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Using kubuntu/9.10 on a lenovo x60 tablet.
When I open the KDE systemsettings display size/orientation section (Computer Administration > Display > Size & Orientation), my screen goes black and does not return. At this point I can switch out to a terminal and restart KDM manually.

When the screen goes blank, these lines are generated in .xsession-errors:
