Bug Description

[Based on question #104751, by AJ]

OS: Windows 7 64 bit
(3) monitors (laptop screen + 2 external screens)

Start Inkscape
Select any tutorial from Help/Tutorials/

The tutorial does not appear to open, yet when you check Windows 7 taskbar, you can see the thumbnail.
As a workaround:
close inkscape , and close the tutorial by clicking the x on the taskbar's thumbnail
revert to single screen
open up inkscape
open up the tutorial from the menu help/tutorials

I have a very similar problem except that part of the Tutorial window is initially visible on the secondary monitor screen to which is it moved (after having been automatically repositioned and resized). I expect that it is the same error, but that our monitors have different resolutions.

More information about my system which should assist you in diagnosing the problem:

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit; Service Pack 1
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.6 GHz (this is prob. not important)
RAM: 4 GB
DirectX runtime version: 11
GPU: GeFORCE 8600 GT; driver version 275.33

Display settings:
I have two monitors on my desktop system. The smaller monitor with lower resolution appears to the *left* of my larger primary monitor. Going from left to right, my monitors are numbered (2)(1). My primary (rightmost) monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1200, while my secondary (leftmost) monitor has a resolution of only 1280 x 768. The secondary monitor is positioned such that the bottoms of the two monitors coincide - not the tops. Therefore the top of my secondary monitor is some 432 pixels below that of my primary monitor. This is the source of the repositioning error. [Ostensibly your code assumes that the secondary monitor must have its upper, left pixel at (0, 0), whereas mine is at (0, 432), or more likely, (-1280, 432). The original laptop owner may have his smaller laptop screen perched between two (much) larger desktop monitors for similar effect.] See the attachment for pictorial clarification.

Workaround:
I drag the right side of the tutorial window far enough that it reaches onto my primary screen. From there I have access to the titlebar which I use to reposition the window so that it fits completely onto either of the two screens.

Attached is another screen capture. This one showing the original position of an Inkscape Tutorial window as automatically displayed on my secondary monitor (i.e., the monitor without the taskbar). Again, recall that my secondary monitor is positioned to the left of my primary monitor and that the two monitors are aligned along their bottoms, not their tops.

This bug appears in Inkscape version 0.48, as well as 0.47 (at least).

Thanks,
Marisano
