Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I swap my caps lock and backspace keys using xmodmap, and I use xset to change the repeat settings accordingly.
This all worked fine in Ubuntu 9.10.

In 10.04 beta 1, the repeat settings for caps lock and backspace are lost whenever I use the multimedia keys or brightness keys on my keyboard. Then I use xset again and they're fine until I touch one of those keys again.

To repeat:
1) run
xset -r 22
xset r 66
2) observe changed repeat settings in caps lock and backspace keys
3) press multimedia buttons
4) observe repeat settings have reverted

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9400.

I have it too on Xubuntu 10.04 and ASUS Eee PC 1001PX.

I use xmodmap to fix keyboard layout a little, then `xset r 105` to set repeat for the left arrow, which is former Ctrl key. It works, but after I press one of the several (not all) of the keys with special function with Fn modifier, repeat is disabled again. These keys include for example two brightness shifting keys and NumLK.

Not sure if it helps to debug this bug but I had same issue with Debian Squeeze where two buttons reseted xset settings: Fn+Down and Fn+Up (lcd brightness). I solved it by disabling HAL in debian, however as far as I know Ubuntu 10.04 should not use HAL any more.

However one side-note, after HAL disable, xev start showing different keycode in some reason. So in my case with HAL I was using "xset -r 236", after (without HAL) it was "xset -r 237".

I no longer see this bug on Ubuntu 13.10, so it was fixed at some point. Marking as fix released.
