Inkscape should monitor the files of open documents for external changes.

Many interactive text editors and IDEs will monitor all files being edited for changes and prompt the user to reload them. Examples of programs that do this are Visual Studio, VIM, Notepad++ and Komodo. Inkscape is a graphical editor, but its primary output is human readable XML. There is also value in hand editing the svg files, for example, to add javascript to the SVG files.

I've personally had this issue when I was editing a SVG file in both inkscape and komodo editor.

In the past code was added and tested to address exactly this situation. Are you seeing it not work in 0.47 or in trunk?

I just downloaded the latest windows snapshot, and opened the same file in komodo edit and inkscape. The issue still exists.

If I save the file in inkscape komodo prompts me to reload the file. If I save the file in komodo inkscape makes no prompt.

AFAIU the code change was related to reloading externally edited bitmap images, not to reloading the SVG document itself.

Is this a duplicate of bug #171499? Seems to be part of it.
