Bug Description

With lucid lynx beta1, boot freezes after displaying "Starting up ..." (some activity on the disk continues for more that 10 seconds, and then no other sign of activity). I observe it when booting with kernels:
2.6.31-19-generic
2.6.31-18-generic
2.6.31-17-generic
Everything is OK when I choose to boot with kernel
2.6.31-10-rt
but the boot process takes 1'28" from the moment when I hit "enter" after selecting the kernel in grub menu until the moment when the invitation to connect appears.

Could you also please test the latest mainline kernel and see if this solves the problem?

I tested the following kernel: 2.6.34-999-generic (linux-image-2.6.34-999-generic_2.6.34-999.201004051003_i386.deb) and the boot is OK. It is not totally satisfactory since the Nvidia driver is not loaded. These errors are displayed:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA Kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Sreen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration

When I validate and choose a lower resolution, I can open a gnome session.

Thats because the nvidia modules has to be built specifically for each kernel.

I see nearly the same except that my system does not show the "Starting up.." string, but only a cursor that keeps on blinking indefinitely.

I have seen this on my system ever since I installed lucid alpha 2 (My system is new and I didn't extensively use karmic because than I don't have wifi).

Do you want me to make a new bug? Attach my system settings as well? Anything else?

Oops, forgot to mention... For me it SOMETIMES (1 out of 3 tries) hangs on boot.
