Bug Description
To reproduce in Lucid beta1:
1. Run gnome-appearance properties
2. If effects are on, choose 'no effects'.
3. Choose desktop effects.
4. When the window asking whether you want to keep the settings appears, press 'Keep settings'.
5. The application hangs.
This is happening both in a VirtualBox VM (VirtualBox 3.1.6 with guest additions) and also on a PC with an nvidia GeForce 8600M GT video card.
