Bug Description

I am running the latest version of Ubuntu Edgy. After successfully adding an SMB printer I cannot print. The most suspicious error message in the log file is: PID 23402 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/smb) crashed on signal 6!

I found similar bugs and tried after reinstalling cupsys, hpijs, foomatic-db-hpijs and libgnome2-perl (since it was recommended in those bug reports). Problem still exists.

I am connected to an HP printer (LaserJet 1015 using the recommended hpijs driver but also others) on a Windows host in my local network.

Can't select cups as package, so left it at "I don't know".

This is a pure Samba problem, as the "smb" backend is part of the Samba package. The error_log does not show anything wrong which happened to the "smb" backend. The "smb" simply crashed.

So closing the cupsys task ...

I'm taking the liberty to set this to Incomplete as the question from 2007 about whether this is still a problem has gone unanswered.
