Bug Description

Ubuntu Software Center 1.1.22, Ubuntu Lucid

1. Switch to the Ambience theme, if you're not currently using it.
2. Expand the "Get Software" section.
3. Select the "Provided by Ubuntu" item.

What happens:
2. The "Provided by Ubuntu" item looks like it has no icon.
3. The icon is revealed as having been completely white on a white background.

What should happen: The icon should be visible against a white background.

This is apparently because the icon theme is setting the "distributor-logo" icon to be white. In the absence of -symbolic icons, it should be setting only the "distributor-logo-panel" icon to be white.

Alternatively, software-center should temporarily use a different icon.

The also happens when you click on 'Add to panel' and find menu both
icons are the same way.

Thanks for pointing that out, Omer. There may well be other places using distributor-logo and expecting it to be visible too.

So, this is because bug 544177 was fixed incorrectly. go-home-applet was using the "distributor-logo" icon in its panel, which therefore needed to be themed based on the panel color. So it was changed in ubuntu-mono, which made it invisible elsewhere. Now go-home-applet has been fixed to use "start-here" instead (again in bug 544177), and ubuntu-mono needs corresponding changes to make "distributor-logo" colorful again.

I rejected it myself after discussion with Ken Wimer, Rick Spencer, and Didier Roche. Ken and Didier have fixed, or will fix, the bug in the way I described in my previous comment. This will be much better than the Ubuntu-specific hack fix in my branch.

Hehe , exactly what i mentioned in bug 544177 ;-)

If we remove the symlink all should be fine.

Bug 544177 has now been fixed in the way Vish suggested originally. But we still need a visible distributor-logo icon.

We now have a visible 'provided by ubuntu' icon.

ubuntu-mono (0.0.15) lucid; urgency=low

  * Added new logo for GDM
  * Added pacakge-supported icons with new logo for software-center, synaptic
  * Added new logos to distributor-logo
