This git commit should fix it according to upstream:

Throwing that patch in still doesn't work though:
./.libs/libvte.so: undefined reference to `gdk_x11_screen_get_xscreen'
./.libs/libvte.so: undefined reference to `gdk_x11_drawable_get_xid'
./.libs/libvte.so: undefined reference to `gdk_x11_display_get_xdisplay'
./.libs/libvte.so: undefined reference to `gdk_x11_get_xatom_by_name_for_display'
./.libs/libvte.so: undefined reference to `gdk_x11_xatom_to_atom_for_display'
