Bug Description

Binary package hint: grace

There is a bug that affects all programs that depend on Open Motif. The bug and fix can be found here :

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=543647

Basically, right-clicking within a menu traps the cursor. The user must switch to a text console to kill the app and regain control of the desktop.

This bug appeared for me after a recent update of Kubuntu 10.04 Beta1.

Fixed in 1:5.1.22-4:

grace (1:5.1.22-5) unstable; urgency=low

  * Compile with -g0 on mips and mipsel, as a workaround for a FTBFS
    caused by the linker bug described in #519006.

grace (1:5.1.22-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * changelog: Fix typo in previous entry. (Closes: #568675)
  * control: Increment Standards-Version to 3.8.4.
  * patches/motiflockup.patch: Stack on another workaround for the cursor
    grab problem. (Closes: #567323)
  * patches/rmsdiff.patch: Replace with upstream's version.

I am very new to this whole bug reporting / fixing process in the real Ubuntu world, so I apologize if this is not the place for these comments.

The status in the previous comment states that it was changed from "In Progress" to "Fix Released". I am completely up to date with the released updates for Ubuntu 10.04, but I'm still seeing the issue. Other forums have stated, and I agree, that this is a critical issue for anyone developing in *tif, which I do.

I'd appreciate any response, but specific instructions if I have to acquire / apply / compile this fix myself would be tremendously beneficial to me now, as well as in the future for any further issues I may encounter.

Many Thanks.

I don't think this is a grace issue only. This is an X server issue. Unfortunaly there hasn't been a new release from Ubuntu yet.
I have put a few notes on my blog on how I fixed this. Gladly rebuilding the X server from source is pretty straight forward these days in ubuntu....
If you are interested in the fix, please see: http://twboutnothing.blogspot.com/2010/06/details-for-ubuntu-1004-xorg-server-176.html
