There's exactly the same problem with my EeePC 901 with Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it. In addition it looks pretty much like it that the problem came with updated packages earlier today.

I had the same problem here. For me it was fixed by the new version of the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package (version 1.2.2-1ubuntu1).

I just did the new update, my touchpad is working as it should, all lights are green ^_^

Solved on my T60 ThinkPad. Strange. An hour or so ago I did a new install (lucid beta1) on a new hard disk and everything worked fine. After a full upgrade the touch pad no longer responded to tapping or scrolling. Plus the touch pad was very sensitive. I just did another upgrade (incl. 1.2.2-1ubuntu1) and everything is working fine again. Thanks!

evdev is getting assigned to your touchpad in these logs, updating to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.2.2-1ubuntu1 will fix that.

Yes, shortly after filing this bug I did an update which included xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and after a reboot it all started working again.
