Bug Description

I just tried to boot Edgy Knot 1 on my iMac 1.9Ghz

  Machine Name: iMac G5
  Machine Model: PowerMac12,1
  CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
  Number Of CPUs: 1
  CPU Speed: 1.9 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
  Memory: 1 GB
  Bus Speed: 633 MHz
  Boot ROM Version: 5.2.6f1

I wasn't able to boot this machine under Dapper at all so this is a bit of an improvement. I had to use the suggested boot argument for the video to get past the white screen issue. After that usplash worked fine. Then gdm loads and I just get a black screen for a while. I can hear Gnome loading and then I get distorted graphics on my screen. Very strange.

Hello,

I own a iMac G5 rev C (PowerMac12,1) like you (but 20", 2,1GHz version). I have the same problem. I reached to configured xorg like described in http://wiki.ubuntu.com/iMacG5revC .

This bug is confirmed.

tas50, Étienne, thanks for the bug report!

Unfortunately we really need more information before we can do anything.

Please follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingXAutoconfiguration, and attach the asked files into this bug report.

I'm also marking this bug for the right package (xserver-xorg-video-ati), since it is quite likely a driver problem.

In fact, i think the problem is a sync freq problem. The working xorg.conf use parse-edid result for Monitor section. And ubuntu xorg.conf show a black screen, but i hear the login sound.
