Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Whenever I try to enable desktop effects the computer tries for a while all the windows blink a bit then a window pops up saying desktop effects could not be enabled. When I click ok nothing happens the windows just sit there until i force them shut

the computer is a lenovo w500 with both ATi 3650 and an Intel video card. I get the same result of desktop effects could not be enabled with both cards. This worked in 9.10

You need to enable the xorg-edgers PPA again, sudo apt-get install ppa-purge and then sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers to remove the old xorg-edgers karmic packages that were left behind after upgrading. Then you can reenable xorg-edgers and you will have to manually reinstall xserver-xorg-video-all that is missing because of the screwed up upgrade. The dialog hanging is a dupe of the bug I marked on here otherwise though.
