Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

After the upgrade to 10.04, Youtube (running in Fire fox 3.5) videos didn't run at all. I re-installed the flash plug-ins and I got sound after telling the video to play with the play button (clicking the video area did nothing), but the video looked like, a frame here, then a few seconds later, it would give me another frame. Choppy could be a gentle way of putting it.

I have also noticed some other flash-based issues, such as Foxtabs (addon) would show up when I opened a new tab, but would not do anything, like it was just a picture.

I have the same problem here. Machine is HP Compaq NW8240 notebook with ATI Mobility FireGL V5000 on radeon driver.
I am able to run even some 720p movies with VLC, but I can't watch Flash videos (Youtube and others) full screen.
Everything seems ok when they are normal size, but when enlarged i ged at most 1 frame per second.
Firefox also becomes slugish and using too much cpu when opening a flash intensive web site.

Is this an issue in the final release of Ubuntu 10.04? I see that you have two flash players installed, gnash and an outdated adobe. Could you please pick one and make sure you have the most recent release of the other? Also, please list your graphics card, you can do that by typing 'lspci | grep VGA' in the terminal and pasting the output here.

In my case this turned out to be due to the fact that the open source radeon driver did not work and accelerate to the highest extent, and my machine is not supported on the latest ATI drivers, whereas the older ATI drivers do not support the new kernel and both can't be installed and used at all.

glxgears was running at arround 150 FPS

I solved or better say helped this issue from being unbareable to becoming usable, by using xorg-edgers software update repository

now glxgears runs at 1560 FPS and flash works ok.
Graphics is still not up to the speed i had when using Windows XP and Windows 7, but it is much much better.
Browser is still slugish on web sites with many flash regions, on such sites it seems 2-3 times slower than under windows, but it is not a huge problem now
