Bug Description

Binary package hint: dolphin

I have Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and Samba is not correctly handling SMB authentication. When I am attempting to pass a file through to VLC, it won't work unless I already have established credentials with that file by copying it to my computer through a cut and paste.

KDE version is 4.4.1 and Dolphin version is 1.4.

affects: dolphin (Ubuntu) → kdebase (Ubuntu)

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!

This is a problem with Dolphin. When you access a Samba share with nautilus, the share is automatically mounted so that all media is accessed like from a local drive and streaming is done transparently. Dolphin does not mount shares, which causes all the problems with accessing and streaming browsed data. I believe that importance of this bug should be increased as the feature works perfectly in both Windows and Ubuntu from years, while Kubuntu fails dramatically. When often using different shares Kubuntu becomes unusable.
