Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

The secondary monitor does not turn on. Both my monitors turn up in the Monitor Preferences application, and I can choose to enable it. When I hit apply, nothing happens. The secondary monitor stays in power saving mode and does not display anything at all. I'm using the default opensource driver and an ATI HD5770 graphics card.

This seems likely to be an output enablement issue, which with KMS is an issue in the kernel drm, so I'm refiling to the kernel.

It would be instructive if you could attempt to reboot with KMS disabled and see if that makes any difference.

Hm, I don't think KMS is used? I don't see anything about KMS in dmesg. I still tried adding "radeon.modeset=0" to the kernel boot options, but no change.

Hi Johan,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
