When you say that your system boots in text mode, do you mean that you see text on the screen? What text do you see? Can you take a screenshot?

Do you have the packages plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text and plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo installed?

Yes

<<Do you have the packages plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text and plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo installed?>>

No, I had not, strange. Now I installed the two packages and I can see the Ubuntu logo.
But the resolution is wrong (seems 640x480) and the colors seems 16bit. I have a widescreen display 1920x1200
I can't take a screenshot in this moment

Ok, thanks; marking this bug as resolved then, since the latest version of ubuntu-standard will pull in those plymouth-theme packages automatically.

(Yes, this is going to come up with 640x480 as the resolution because you're using the nvidia binary driver and the only reliable fallback framebuffer we have in that case is the VGA framebuffer.
