Bug Description

Binary package hint: scim

- My machine had a long period (for some months) of untimely freezing ("Input/Output Latency" at least 100% according to the System Monitor) : I never had the chance to set apart the responsible process (lauching either "gnome-process" either "ps axl" was impossible) but I suspected "npviewer.bin" (Adobe Flash Applications) due to other Ubuntu user testimonies. Moreover "frozen moments" has led myself to mistreat my machine, because of no other way for me to reboot it correctly : most of the time, I switched to another tty to send the HALT signal (CTRL+ALT+Del). It happend at least 50 or 60 times, now it has stopped (thanks to some kind of updates : which one ? \o/).

I guess that matter can heavily affect my packages and its management.

- Here are repositories I've been adding for a long ago :
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/gm-notify-maintainers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb http://www.mendeley.com/repositories/xUbuntu_9.10 /
deb http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-proposed restricted main multiverse universe
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

The file in question is in the package itself. So, I don't know what's happening here. I tend to think this is not a valid issue.

Does this happen in lucid?

Please try the following "sudo aptitude purge scim;sudo aptitude install scim". Aptitude may ask you to deinstall a couple of packages alongside scim. A couple of packages should be OK. If it wants to deinstall half the system, abort. If it wants to deinstall any packages called ubuntu* or *desktop or something like that, abort.
